Nizoral shampoo - great for treating dandruff and hair loss

This guide provides a complete review of Nizoral shampoo, cream and explains its effect on dandruff, hair loss, etc. Ketoconazole, the main ingredient in Nizoral, is primarily used as a medicine for fighting infections caused through fungal or yeast.

Though it is considered as an antifungal cream by the physicist and used as one, it still has been used as an effective treatment for the dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.

Caution before using Nizoral

Since you must consult a doctor before usage of the Nizoral cream or shampoo, this part goes as a word of caution to warn you of the harm it might cause in case of improper use. People who must be cautious before deciding to use Nizoral are:

  • People who are allergic to Ketoconazole
  • Children, old age people are not advised to use this cream or shampoo unless explicitly advised by the doctor
  • Pregnant woman should avoid the use of the Nizoral

Usage of Nizoral

There are 2 types of Nizoral shampoos available for use.

The first one is commercially available without the doctor's prescription. It contains 1% ketaconazole in it. It can be used for general treatment of dandruff. It can be applied like using any shampoo but make sure that the shampoo reaches the scalp. Usage of warm water is preferred.

The second shampoo contains 2% ketaconazole and is available only under the doctor's consent. Application of this shampoo is similar to previously explained method. Only difference here is that after applying the shampoo to the hair and the scalp area it is left for 5 minutes before rinsing of the shampoo with warm water.

Nizoral for dandruff

Nizoral shampoo is great for treating dandruff. Its highly effective and usually a 2/3 week course can be a great treatment for dandruff. It only requires to be rinsed and left on the scalp for 4/5 minutes before being fully washed off. 2/3 time a week is adequate. Over use is not recommended because it can cause headaches and leave the hair looking fried and devoid of any moisture.

The dosage may differ from each person and is usually made in consent with the doctor you are visiting.

Nizoral for hair loss

Ketoconazole has been shown to be effective at combating DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is responsible for hair miniaturization. Studies have shown 1 % to be quite effective, but the 2% dosage is more reliable as being part of anyone's hair loss regimen. Nizoral itself is not adequate to counter hair loss, but helps in combination with a more powerful DHT blocker such as Propecia.

Possible side effects of Nizoral

There may be side effects in some people by the usage of the cream or the shampoo. You may have an itchy feeling on the applied area, or a rash developed in the area. Some people also develop headaches, but this is rare and if does happen, it usually goes away pretty quickly. All you must do is to stop using the cream or shampoo and immediately pay a visit to the doctor and seek his advice.
