How to exercise while pregnant

Exercise is very important while you are pregnant, no matter what you have heard from family and friends. Many women today believe they should lie around the house and be waited on hand and foot during their months of pregnancy, however, this is so far from the truth. Healthy exercise during pregnancy, will not only keep you fit, but can also aid in the delivery of your baby.

Exercise in moderation

Moderate exercise, nothing strenuous is recommended. Many women are already on an exercise program when they learn they are pregnant. In most cases, it is fine to keep up with your normal exercise routine and recreation activities unless it is something like mountain climbing. However, you should always discuss your recreation activities and exercise routine over with your physician to ensure it is safe for baby.

Some of the best exercise recommended for pregnant women includes:

•  non-impact exercises such as water aerobics and stationary cycling

•  walking as long as you wear comfortable and sensible shoes

Other suggestions for exercising while pregnant include:

Three exercise session per week

•  Do not become exhausted

•  Do not become overheated

•  Avoid humidity

•  Drink plenty of water

•  Wear comfortable and loose fit clothing

•  As your baby grows, you center of gravity will change thus be careful during jogging or aerobics

•  Do not lie flat on your back after the third month of pregnancy

•  Do not lie on your stomach during the first trimester

•  If you experience persistent pain or have any vaginal bleeding visit your doctor

•  Do not lift heavy objects

•  Do not include any exercise that require straining

•  Listen to your own body if the exercise feels strange then stop that exercise

If you wish to enjoy exercising while pregnant, you can talk with your doctor and find local mom-to-be exercise programs. This not only gives you a way in which to stay fit and have your body ready for delivery, but it gives you experienced instructors that know what exercises you should and should not do during your pregnancy. The most important things to remember are to drink plenty of water and never work out until you are exhausted.
