How to get an eyelid surgery
Eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, is usually done for cosmetic reasons, removing the loose upper lids and saggy bags below your eyes that form up with age. In some cases however, blepharoplasty may have a practical reason not only a cosmetic one.
For example, when the eyelids and eye bags get swollen up so hard that they impair normal view, eyelid surgery will heavily improve eye sight for the patient.
An eyelid plastic surgery is not necessarily an easy operation, considering we're dealing with such a sensitive area. For this reason, costs for the surgery are relatively high. Eyelid surgery cost can go up to $3,500-4,000, depending of course on the medical facility and plastic surgeon you're visiting.
Although there will be many surgeons performing this operation, you shouldn't go for the cheapest. Since this is a very detailed surgery in such a sensitive area, you're better off spending an extra buck and making sure you're being operated on by a plastic surgeon with lots of experience and an unspotted reputation.
Double eyelid
Some Asian patients decide to undergo blepharoplasty to correct the shape of their eyelids and also to take out what is commonly known as the “double eyelid”. The double eyelid surgery is not necessarily meant for Asian patients, but they tend to suffer from it more often due to their eye shape.
How the procedure works?
The eyelid surgery and the degree at which it can “repair” the eye depends on several factors such as the eyebrow height, whether or not the patient suffers from any eye conditions, if he or she wears contact lenses and so forth.
The actual blepharoplasty is quite complex, as the surgery involves creating an incision around the eye through which fat and muscle are removed. Usually, these tissues are removed with the help of a guided laser beam.
After the tissue causing the soggy eyelids has been removed, the next step is to close the incisions with fine sutures that need to be almost unnoticeable. Usually, eyelid folds or small tissues are used to hide any unaesthetic effects caused by the cosmetic eyelid surgery.
Following surgery
It must be noted that straight after the cosmetic eyelid surgery has been performed, your eyes will look like after a serious beating. Heavy bruising and swelling are perfectly normal for a couple of days, so you won't be able to check if the blepharoplasty was successful or not straight away.
Cold compresses and soothing creams may be used to reduce these after effects, but your eyes and eyelids should be getting back to normal after a few days anyway. If you experience dry and “sticky” eyes right after the surgery, your doctor may prescribe you some eye drops to help you deal with the problem.
