How to get rid of a bruise

Everyone has experienced getting a bruise whether it was from someone hitting you or from bumping your head on the cabinet. If you have an ugly bruise that you want to disappear, then you can follow the tips and it will soon vanish.

  1. Wash the wound with antibacterial soap and cold water, which will prevent infection. Many times with a bruise, you may have small abrasions that you may not see at first. These tiny little cuts can become infected if not cleaned.
  2. Place ice on the bruise, which will aid in keeping the swelling down along with constricting the capillaries close to the surface of the skin. This aids in preventing more blood from being released into the skin and appearing at the sight of the bruise.
  3. If you can, elevate the bruise. If the bruise happens to below the waist it is an easier task as all you have to do is lie down and place your leg on a pillow. If the bruise is on your forehead, then lie down and keep your head on the pillow higher than the rest of your body.
  4. You can also use pain reliever if the bruise is painful. However, do not use Aspirin as aspirin causes the blood to thin which does not help with clotting. The best over the counter pain reliever for bruises are Tylenol, Motrin, or Excedrin.
  5. After two days, you will be able to place warm compresses on the bruise around three to four times per day. This will aid the body to increase the blood flow so it can start the normal cleaning process.
  6. Repeat the warm compress as many days as necessary until the bruise is gone.

There are a few other suggestions that might work as well and may even help in speeding up the process. For smaller bruises, you can apply tea bags, fresh pineapple, or even toothpaste. This will make some small bruises vanish in just a day or two.

You can also use a product called Arnika Gel. You should apply this product about every hour and still remember to use ice.
