How to get rid of head lice
Head lice can be an embarrassing problem for any children affected with it, especially with tighter school regulations imposed to stop spreading head lice, which can result in the school sending the child home for treatment. Although this scenario is not often called for, the schools have the discretion to do this. Its not only kids that are affected by head lice though. Many adults also get head lice.
Head lice symptoms
Sometimes it can be difficult to see head lice roaming around a child's hair, so a parent or guardian must take appropriate measures to detect any signs. Below are possible symptoms.
- Seeing head lice. Usually this would require someone to observe your scalp to detect any signs of head lice.
- Usually the child will get an itchy scalp and may scratch the head from time to time if the problem is quite mild or, frequently, if the head lice problem has become quite severe. Bear in mind that skin irritation can also be caused by dandruff and not necessarily the presence of head lice.
- Another symptom of the possibility of head lice is nits. Nits are eggshells that can either be found on the scalp or on the hair.

What causes head lice?

- Head lice can easily transfer at home from one member of the family to another. It is often a contagious problem because someone with severe head lice problem in a household quite often infects others with head lice.
- Sharing a bed or a room with a person with head lice will likely increase the chance of the other person getting it too.

Home remedy for head lice
Before you seek the advice of your physician/doctor you should try to eliminate head lice with tradition ways of treating head lice. These are simple steps that any one can take at home to treat head lice.
- Comb hair using a comb designed to kill lice or remove their eggs. The picks on these combs are usually very fine and very concentrated which enables a mild scabbing of the scalp and ensures the likelihood of lice to be caught by the comb. These can be easily obtained from your local pharmacy.
- A highly effective dandruff shampoo like Nizoral will also get rid of head lice over the course of a few weeks treatment because it has chemicals that are good at removing head lice. Nizarol should be used no more than 3 times a week though. Of course it also removes sebum, dead skin cells, and dandruff, all of which help to create an atmosphere where head lice thrive.
Prescription treatment
If any of the home remedies for head lice treatment does not work, you should visit your physician/doctor who can prescribe you with a head lice treatment that contains on e of arbaryl, malathion, permethrin or phenothrin. All of these are insecticides that are designed to kill insects.
Thus far it is unknown how good any herbal treatments for head lice are.
