How to obtain a safe tan
There are many ways in which to tan from sunbathing to tanning salons to tanning pills. However, if you want a beautiful bronze tan, you may be concerned about your own safety especially with all the warnings about skin cancer associated with UV rays from the sun.
The main ways in which to obtain a beautiful suntan is by lying outside, using tanning booths, tanning beds, bronzers, sunless tanning sprays, and of course the tanning pill. Lying outside in the sunshine has been considered detrimental to your skins overall health, however, your body does need nutrients that only the sun can give. Skin cancer known is not as life threatening as other cancers that can occur from the lack of sunshine. A matter of fact, tanning moderately can even reduce your chances of skin cancer and diseases such as osteoporosis.
Tanning beds and booths are often one of the most popular ways in which to tan in recent years. The reason this way has become so popular is that it is assumed the UV rays are not as bad for you as the UV rays from the sun. The truth is that the UV rays found in both tanning beds and booths have been found to be two to three times stronger than the rays you would actually receive from lying out on the beach in the sun.
You can tan safely with tanning beds, tanning booths, and direct sunlight. The only thing you must remember is to use sunscreen, say in the booth, bed, or in the sun for a moderate amount of time. The length of time you spend under the lights or in the direct sun is the determining factor to the damage you will do to your skin. Bronzers and sunless tanning sprays are in fact, a cosmetic way in which to receive the darker skin you desire. This type of tanning option is really just a form of makeup that creates an illusion of a tan. All you have to do to lose this tan is to take a bath with soap and water.
Using either the spray or the bronzers you will find that it is difficult to apply, can streak easily, and can even run causing you to have an uneven tan. Some people have complained their skin is orange instead of a beautiful bronze. Tanning pills may seem like a dream come true, however, in many cases, the skin turns orange including the palms of your hands, the whites of your eyes, and even your urine may be orange. The side effects of the tanning pill are nausea, cramping, diarrhea, and itching.
The safest tan is lying out in the sun. You just need to adhere to a few simple rules which include:
Avoid the sun between 10 am and 3 pm – this is when the sun is at its harshest – clouds are deceiving, you can still burn
Always wear sunscreen and sunblock – reapply every 2 to 3 hours
Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes
