How to prevent RSI
Repetitive strain injury also known as RSI can be a very difficult thing to prevent especially if your job depends on the same old movement repeatedly. However, there are a few things you can do to break up the movement and give your joints and muscles a break from the stress.
Things to prevent RSI include
If you work at a computer all day, take regular breaks. Every 30 minutes, stretch out your arms and wiggle your fingers. Place your arms down, give your shoulders, and neck a break from sitting in the same position. If you can at all, move your legs and change positions. Place your legs under your bottom for a minute or more.
Every two hours get up and more around the room. Raise your arms above your head and move them in circles.
If you are standing in one place such as in a factory, and making the same movements on an assembly line, change positions. Place your legs differently. Stand whereas you must move a bit differently in order to do your job. During break sit down and place your legs up if possible.
If you feel pain, stop immediately and rest. If you can move positions and wait until the pain is gone. In some cases, move the portion of your body that is in pain.
Keep a good posture. If you lean over your computer while working, this is a definite no-no. No wonder your back hurts. You should sit with your back against the back of your chair with your arms down by your side and your hands extended to your computer. A bad posture will not make your back hurt, but your arms, neck, and hands as well. With a good posture, you are distributing the stress appropriately to all parts of the body.
Stay in shape. Exercise will aid your muscles and help your body stay fit which includes your cardiovascular system, tendons, ligaments, and of course your muscles.
Learn how to manage stress and relax. You body needs adequate sleep and relaxation. Without the proper amount, your muscles will become tense and will be easier to strain.
Along with these tips, you should also eat a well balanced diet. Your body needs the nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. A healthy body is less likely to injury as easily.
