How to prevent toothache
Everyone will have a toothache from time to time but there are a few things you can do to aid in the prevention of having toothaches.
The main way to prevent a toothache is by keeping your teeth and gums healthy. In order to keep your teeth and gums healthy as possible you will need a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a dentist.
Toothbrush
Before purchasing a toothbrush, you should know that not all toothbrushes are the same. You can find soft bristles all the way to hard bristles, toothbrushes designed to reach those hard to reach back teeth, and of course various shapes and sizes. In order to choose the proper toothbrush you can talk with your dentist. He or she can give you an idea of the best toothbrushes for your teeth and gums.
Toothpaste
Once again, if you go to the corner store you will find an array of toothpastes including ones for sensitive teeth, ones with whitening power, and many others. It is recommended that you purchase a toothpaste with fluoride. The other ingredients are really a choice such as whitening.
Floss
Floss is of course another item with all kinds of choices. You can choose any type even flavored with mint.
How often?
In most cases, it is recommended to brush your teeth three times per day with a fluoride toothpaste. Do not rinse away the toothpaste in order for the fluoride to do its job. If you cannot brush your teeth three times per day, you should at least brush your teeth when you arise in the morning and before retiring.
Why brush?
Brushing your teeth removes pieces of food that is trapped in between your teeth. If this food is not removed, it will begin to rot which will be an invitation for bacteria to come and take up residence. Once a bacterium is living in the area, you are bound to begin to see tooth decay and of course experience a toothache.
Why use fluoride toothpastes?
Fluoride helps to make the enamel on the outer portion of your teeth stronger. This will help in the prevention of decay.
Why Floss?
Flossing should be done at least once per day. Floss can get into places that the toothbrush cannot reach such as those small cracks in-between your teeth. Flossing aids in strengthening the gums and fights against gum diseases.
Dentist
Just because you brush your teeth and floss regularly does not mean you can skip visiting the dentist. Your dentist is a very important part of healthy teeth and gums. He can examine your teeth, gums, and learn if you may have a problem arising with a cavity or even a break in a tooth that can become a major problem in the future. You should visit your dentist for a regular checkup and teeth cleaning twice per year with or without a toothache.
Diet
You should pay attention to the consumption of candies and sodas. Both of these will wear away the enamel on your teeth, which will be the beginning of a toothache.
