How to remove acne scar – different methods

This guide provides a comprehensive list of methods to treat acne scar.

Acne infection is an injury that needs repair, and therefore the body will send white blood cells and other molecules that must fight the infection and repair the infected cells.

There are several treatments that can be used to remove acne scar. Among them, the most important are chemical peels, laser acne removal and retinoid.

Laser acne scar treatment

Laser therapy is probably the most common treatment for reducing and removing acne scars and age spots. More, unlike tanning, this treatment method will not age your skin or induce skin cancer. The laser light is directed onto the affected cells of the skin.

Depending on the gravity and aspect of the acne scar condition, the light can be oriented to your blood, in order to remove the red, spider veins or to the melanin coloring in your skin to remove age-related spots or sun damage. More, the treatment will lead to a replacement of the connective tissue and collagen.

  • Laser acne removal is great for deep scars
  • Its not as harsh as a strong chemical peel
  • Its quick and effective
  • May need several sessions to remove the scars totally

Chemical peel

This is another acne scar treatment. Chemical peeling has been used for years, for several purposes: for acne scar removal, skin discolorations and blemishing.

  • There is chemical peeling that can be done at home. There are several different peels available such as retin a, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid. Over the counter treatments that have either of these acids tend to in very weak form. These are OK to treat very subtle and light scars, for deeper scars, stronger versions where these acids are the main ingredients, will be required. Usually, a doctor's prescription is required.
  • Dermatologist administered chemical peels. These tend to use very high strength chemical peels. They are usually used to treat deep acne scars. However, you can also treat lighter scars if you wish.

Retinoid

Few people know it, but vitamin A is essential to good health, especially for vision problems. It has healthful effects in the skin. Large doses of vitamin A for the treatment of acne are not recommended on grounds of safety. The retinoid and retinoid-like substances which are usually used as treatments for acne are specially prepared for their potent effect on the shedding of cell lining in the sebaceous follicle. A dermatologist should monitor their use.

Home remedy for acne scar

If you consider these too expensive or unfit to your needs, you can always try a home remedy for acne scar. Some of the things that you can try at home are face washes for increasing the collagen amount, use vitamin E oil on your skin, herbal extracts and several nutrients.

Some other home remedies for acne are:

  • Light alpha hydroxy peels
  • Glycolic acid
  • Retin-a acid

These home acne medications contain the above acids in weaker versions.

Natural healing process

If the acne scars are not too deep, quite often the scars will heal themselves hence teenagers often see their acne scars vanish as they move into their twenties.
