How to remove moles

Moles, as many of us know, is any dark spot, mark or a patch that appears on the skin. Sometimes a skin mole can be unsightly, especially if its very prominent.

Moles may affect appearance

Skin moles can appear anywhere in the body. Facial moles that appear in the face can also be seen in many people. Often moles are not considered to be a problem, but some might consider a mole to detract from their looks, especially if it's a facial mole. Many people are most concerned about facial mole removal because they are more more exposed. The mole removal can be accomplished by a number of ways.

  • Excision with stitching
  • Excision with cauterization
  • Laser mole removal

The first two methods are surgical methods while the last one uses a laser beam for the removal of moles.

Surgical mole removal

Let us look at the various steps involved in the surgical method for mole removal:

  1. The initial process in the mole removal is usually the preparatory process. The area marked for mole removal is first cleansed using a cleanser. The surgeon usually chooses the cleanser.
  2. Then the cleansed area is anesthetized using a local anesthetic.
  3. After the area becomes numb (usually it takes up to 15 minutes), the surgeon, using a scalpel, may either:

a) Cut the mole off completely along with the boundary of the area. Then the surgeon may provide stitches based on the depth of the cut. This process is excision with stitching.

b)  Shave off the area, taking the mole away in the process. Sometimes he may penetrate the skin to some extent. Then he may burn the area and provide an antibiotic to the area. Finally the wound is bandaged. This process is excision with cauterization i.e., burning off the area of the mole to remove it.

Once the above process is completed, all that is required healing of the mole area. Though the healing may take time, if handled well, it helps the wound to heal faster.

Clean the area twice a day with water. Apply antibiotics and bandage the wound so that the wound is not open to air. Opening up of the wound may slow the process of healing

Consult with your doctor as instructed for further assistance.

Laser mole removal

Laser mole removal has the benefits of being less intrusive. Your skin won't need to be cut open and heals very quickly without any scars. Laser mole removals cost anything from around $100. This is relatively cheap compared to surgical methods for removing mole.

Steps

You will need to contact a reputable cosmetic clinic in your city. Most cities in the US and UK and other Western countries have at least one or two good cosmetic surgery centers. You will need to ask for a consultation. The length and price will be determined by the size and the number of moles to be removed.
