How to reverse aging with glycolic acid peels

A glycolic acid peel is an increasingly popular method of skin renewal used by people wishing to reverse aging and sun damaged skin. Glycolic acid peels are much milder than alternative chemical facial peels, which is one of its attractions.

Other stronger facial peels, though often more effective, can be extremely irritating and the skin left looking red and irritated for weeks afterwards. This can be quite embarrassing, especially for those who have to be in the public.

Glycolic acid peel – process

A person with mild skin damage is a candidate for a glycolic acid peel. It usually requires several peels to get the desired effect.

Glycolic acid home peel

People who do not have the time or perhaps the necessary funds to get a peel at a Doctor's office/salon, can use home glycolic acid peel systems. These tend to be much milder form of chemical facial peels and usually use no more than 40% strength, considered safe to be self used without supervision.

The home peel systems are an effective way to reverse mild wrinkles and reverse effects of sun damage. People with acne and excess sebum production can also use it. These types of facial peels are done over a longer period of time, say months. The effects are much more gradual.

Sun protection

Whichever glycolic peel you opt for, it is very important to ensure you provide yourself with adequate sun protection. You should wear sun protection factor SPF of at least 15 but the recommended SPF would be 30. Without sun protection, the skin will worsen because glycolic acid makes the skin sensitive to the sunlight and increases the risk of sun burn.
