How to stop the effects of hay fever
Hay fever sufferers will very well know it is very difficult to stop the effects of allergic rhinitis or hay fever, but there are some basic but often overlooked steps one could take to stop or lessen the effects of hay fever.
Hay fever usually causes irritation of the nose known as allergic rhinitis and the eyes.
Steroid sprays Other than getting prescription to medications such as steroid sprays (antihistamine or topical corticosteroid), which will relieve hay fever, there are ways to try and avoid hay fever.
The following list is a way of trying to avoid hay fever and stopping its effects.
Check pollen count
- Remember to check weather bulletins for daily pollen count. If its excessively high on a particular day then it is perhaps best to avoid going to a park or anywhere you will likely be affected by pollens.
- You can also find pollen count in most national newspapers.
Protect the eyes
- Wearing a pair of sunglasses when outside can stop pollen from entering the eyes, thus avoiding itchy eyes.
- Avoid mowing the lawn and stay away from grassy areas.
- Wear comfortable clothing. This would reduce irritation caused by hay fever. Wearing thick clothing can exacerbate the problem and make you feel uncomfortable and increase irritation.
Keep pollen out of the house
- Close windows and doors of a house to stop pollens from being blown in by the air.
- Drive a car that has a pollen filter.
- Cut out fatty and oily foods. Oily foods can exacerbate breathing problems. If have asthma or are prone to sudden attacks then it is imperative you cut out fat in your diet and consume only essential fats.
