How to tell the causes of Alzheimer's Disease
While there are still a lot to know more about Alzheimer’s disease, the symptoms and uncertainties of the disease have progressed in an increasingly frustrating manner that any information being handed out by medical experts are absorbed fervently, in the hopes of alleviating loved ones plagued by this condition.
Unfortunately, there is still no known cause and cure for Alzheimer’s disease. But thanks to the latest technology, researches, microscopes, laser scans and a multitude of other medical advances, there really is no debate anymore as to the body Alzheimer’s has affects on - the brain. Loss of brain tissue is essentially seen in Alzheimer patients which is the cause why people forget simple things and progresses to full-fledged dementia.
As probably a world-wide clamor, the most essential question to be confronted then: what causes Alzheimer’s and what can be done to prevent it?
Scientists and medical experts have agreed that if Alzheimer’s appear in a certain person, family history and age do play a big part. Many would think. Alzheimer’s is a disease affecting only the elderly population but a condition called Early Onset Alzheimer’s are affecting a number of the 30’s and 40’s populations and sometimes even younger.
But on the whole, majority of population hit by Alzheimer’s are that of the older batch. And the more advanced your age becomes, the more risk you will be of suffering from Alzheimer’s. About one and a half percent are one’s chances of developing the disease in their 60s, at age 70, the risk goes up to three and a half percent and by age 75, it increases to almost seven percent. Age does seem to be a trigger, while a strong correlation between Alzheimer’s and anything else appears weak.
Genetics also play a role for triggering Alzheimer’s disease for if a family member suffered from Alzheimer’s, then chances are other family members might also as well. Thus, statistically, if your mother or father suffered from Alzheimer’s or if a brother or sister did, the chances of you developing it go up by two to three and a half times as much. And sadly, if more people are developing it in your family, the more are your chances of getting it..
The cause of Alzheimer’s disease really is anyone’s guess for now. Studies are still scattered and that there are so many connections that are still at loose ends - connection between stress, cardiovascular disease, diet, some links that show aluminium poisoning from drinking fluorinated water and even one study showed that smoking (the nicotine in tobacco) actually helps protect the body against Alzheimer’s. No one knows at this point what really causes Alzheimer’s, but medical science will not rest until more concrete links are found.
Some have considered taking antioxidants, such as vitamin E to protect nerve cell membranes from being damaged by oxidation.
For now, it’s anyone’s game and initiative to battle this disease and the more there is to know about it, the better are the chances of the patients and people with this disease.
