How to treat acne

Acne can be a very annoying and discouraging skin condition for both young people and older adults. It can also be very difficult to treat acne. During treatment, there will be a tendency to be impatient as the procedures to treat acne can have very slow results. To treat serious acne sometimes requires antibiotics and special cleansers.

Here are some tips one can use to treat acne:

Wear white if you have a problem with acne on your back. Doing this also seems to help with the itching. The reason for this could be because of certain dyes used in colored clothing that could help to block pores which complicates the acne. Also, the white, cotton material keeps your skin dry which is also helpful to treat acne.

Zinc

Take zinc while you treat your acne. It can be found in any nutritional supplement store. One source recommended taking 60-90 mg of zinc daily.

A home remedy for treating acne is to put toothpaste on an extremely swollen pimple before going to bed. However, you should use the traditional type of toothpaste and not sugary gels.

Importance of rest and sleep

Take care of yourself. It is important to get the right amount of sleep when treating acne. The body refreshes and feeds skin cells during sleep. A long period of sleep deprivation could cause acne outbreaks.

Drink plenty of water. Drinking water helps to flush you body of impurities.

There has not been any really conclusive evidence that diet affects acne however it stands to reason that a healthy diet is critical for treatment of acne. Just as with any diet, you want to eat the right things and stay away from the processed sugars and fatty, greasy fried foods as much as possible. With teenagers, this is not always possible but one needs to try to do it as part of the acne treatment.

Medication

Your doctor can recommend certain medications to help clear the pores in your skin.

Problems with acne are not indicative of a person with poor hygiene. In fact, one must watch that he or she does not scrub the skin with abrasive soaps too much as it can actually make the problem worse as the skin gets red and is susceptible to more infection. Acne treatment is difficult and one must be very patient through the entire process.
