How to control garden pests

Garden pests of all kinds can be a major problem whether you have a vegetable garden or flower garden, there are wide ranges of pests that can and will invade your garden from insects to animals. In order to control garden pests, you must first identify the type of pests you have destroying your garden.

Animals are pretty easy to keep away especially rabbits. You can find small fencing that is placed around the around whereas rabbits will not be able to reach your tasty vegetables. Cats also love gardens but for other reasons. Cats can normally climb a fence with ease. In order to keep cats out of your garden you should use a wire fence that is slanted away from the garden. As the cat, tries to climb up the fence it will soon learn that it cannot reach the garden and will give up.

For insects, this is another story. There are many different types of insects that attack different types of plants. There is the tomato worm that normally only attacks the tomato plants, then you have small aphids that will attack many different plants, and so on and so forth. You will first need to know the culprit before you will be able to control the pests that are devouring your plants.

A few common ways to keep pests away is to deter there desire is by not inviting them in the garden. This can be done by ensuring your plants are healthy by using organic fertilizers to help the soil be able to give the plants the components that need to stay healthy. Keep your garden clean from weeds and other debris. Insects will love the weeds and will use any dead leaves as a great breeding place.

Once you know the type of pests that are in your garden you can find many organic products that will deter them. Even other insects will be able to help rid your garden of pests.

Ladybugs love to dine on a large variety of aphids. If you want ladybugs to call your garden home and eat all those aphids, then you will need to give them something to eat and drink such as mint and daisies.

Lacewings enjoy meals of beetle larvae, aphids, leafhoppers, whiteflies, spider mites, tobacco budworm, and mealy bugs while parasitic wasps love cutworms, corn earworm, white grubs, and a few caterpillars.

As you can see, first you must know what pest you are dealing with, then you will be able to make an educated decision on whehter you should use an insecticide, pesticide, all natural organic product, or even purchase other insects or invite them into your garden naturally.
