How to understand the Abyssinian breed of cat
The Abyssinian is a natural breed of cats which is originated from Abyssinia, today Ethiopia, but it is also know in the world by other names such as Bunny Cat, Ticked Cat, Rabbit Cat, British Tick and Cat Hare. It is believed that Abyssinians are descendants of Bastet, an ancient sacred cat of Egypt, although the actual breed comes from England.
Height and Weight
Abyssinian is a breed of medium-sized cats with delicate but muscular body that weighs about 9 to 16 pound for both males and females.
Colors and Coat
Abyssinians have a ticked coat resembling the coat of a rabbit, and although they are usual tawny, they can come in different colors alones or mixed bands of single or mixed colors besides of tawny, such as golden brown with black, cinnamon with chocolate, blue with blue gray, dark cream with silver or exotic combinations like chocolate and lavender.
Temperament and Living Environment
Abyssinians are playful. Affectionate and love their owners so they need attention and time to play along with them. These cats socialize well with humans and other pets. However they need scratching posts and toys to avoid them using their energy to destroy your furniture.
Grooming
Brushing the coat of your cat once is enough to keep it shinny, along with rubbing it occasionally with a soft cloth or a special glove that you can find at the vet.
Diet and Care
The Abyssinians do not need special care, but they require a vitamin supplement while growing as well as a chewable food. Exercise is a must, but playing with these cats is the best way to get them exercising.
Health issues and Life expectancy
Abyssinians can leave about 12 years with gingivitis as their most common medical problem.
