How to understand the Birman breed of cat

Your Cat and Origin

Birman cats are domestic cats that were originated in Burma, which is translated into other languages as Birmania, hence the name of the cat which origin is associated to the Asian legend of the Temple of Lao-Tsun, a golden sapphire-blue eyed goddess that inherited on them the nickname of Sacred Cats of Burma.

Height and Weight

Birmans have striking appearance, but well-balanced medium-sized cats when it comes to height, which average 8 to 12 pounds in weight.

Colors and Coat

This breed showcases a medium-length coat with a silky appearance, sapphire-blue eyes, and pointed colors, usually darker in their ears, face, tail, and paws. Their colors vary so they can be white combined with chocolate, lavender, blue, cream red or pure seal. A unique feature seen only in Birmans is their unusual coat with a white "glove" on each paw.

Temperament and Living Environment

These cats are intelligent and affectionate, making strong bonds with their owners and socializing well with pets and other humans from whom they expect attention. Birmans are naturally curious and you will find them investigating what their home has to offer them, as they tend to adapt to your lifestyle and scheduling times.

Grooming

Birman cats needs little grooming because they have a single layer coat that is easy to brush from time to time.

Diet and Care

It is recommended that you feed your Birman with dry food of excellent quality but watch their weight. Because they stick to their owner, keeping yourself a fitness routine that includes your cat will contribute to get it exercising.

Health issues and Life expectancy

Birmans are very healthy cats which only problems are obesity and, in a very few and rare cases, cardiomyopathy so their life expectancy is about 15 years.
