How to stop receiving junk mail in your email inbox

Junk mail is the equivalent of receiving all the unwanted promotion leaflets and other unwanted post that you get through your letterbox. Junk mail is even more annoying because it can be time consuming to go through them. They often look as if they have been delivered to you personally and therefore you are tempted to open them up.

Here are a few tips that will either stop or significantly reduce the amount of junk you receive everyday:

All good email accounts provide you the option to filter out junk mail from the inbox. In hotmail, you can do this by clicking on: Options>Junk email protection>junk email filter>then choosing whichever option you prefer.
  • You will be able to select from one of three options:
Low - obvious junk emails are caught
Enhanced - most junk email is caught
Exclusive - You will only receive emails from addressees in your contacts .
  • The last option is not always the best because there are some important emails that are not 'junk' will be sent to your inbox.
  • When first signing up for an email account you are often provided options to receive daily emails from a host of sites and firms. Ignore them if you don't want your inbox or junk mail box to be infiltrated on a daily basis.
  • Avoid entering too many online prize giveaways because not only you don't get anything but you get unwanted emails and your email address is passed on to lots o other affiliated sites.
  • When you do enter a genuine draw, make certain that you tick the option of not wishing to receive further promotional material from third parties, unless, of course, you want to.
If you subscribe to a newsletter, only sign on to those that genuinely interests you.
