How to cure baldness
Right off the bat, lets make it clear that baldness induced by androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), a genetic predisposition to hair loss, is not curable. Although other types of hair loss or baldness such as alopecia areata or caused by side effects to medical treatments is curable, often without the requirement of any intervention because the hair grows back on its own.
Since we are talking about hereditary hair loss and baldness, the only solution you have is to try and stop the hair loss and grow hair back. Now, the great news is that a lot of people are doing just that quite successfully Some have managed to either stop or at least slow the rate of hair loss and grow some hair back, in some cases, quite a lot of hair has grown back.
Unfortunately, though these treatments are successful in some cases, they will not cure the baldness because, as soon as the treatments are stopped, hair loss will resume and baldness will recur.
Here is how to go about trying to reverse the baldness
Find the cause of hair loss
Assess your hair to find out if its androgenetic alopecia. Remember, the classic signs of this type of hair loss is thinning hair on the crown (vertex), temporal (temple) regions with the quality of hair not so good.
If you are unsure about not being able to detect hereditary hair loss, you should
Stop the hair loss
Once you've determined that your hair loss is hereditary, you will need to put a stop to it or try and at least slow it down. You have to do this by using a hair loss treatment that inhibits di-hydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT, is of course, responsible for causing hair follicles to shrink in size
The best option you have in that regard is propecia. Propecia is an excellent DHT inhibitor. Propecia will stop DHT from binding to the hair follicles which allows the hair from miniaturizing as the follicles are free from being attacked by DHT. However, in fact, it is the most widely used treatment for this purpose within the hair loss community. Granted, a few people do experience side effects such as low libido, but propecia is the key treatment for stopping hair loss.
Grow hair back
Once you have in place a treatment to stop hair loss, the next stage is to go on a treatment that will help to grow hair. The most effective treatment in terms of efficacy is minoxidil. Its undoubtedly the best for inducing hair growth. Although other treatments exist for stimulating hair growth, those are usually very weak stimulants.
Some people do experience minor side effects with minoxidil, but it is none too serious. For most people, the worst-case scenario is itching of the scalp and possibly tingling sensation felt on the face (though rare). Unfortunately, in very rare cases, a few people have experienced heart palpitations. Anyone experiencing this is advised to stop using minoxidil immediately and consult a doctor.
How long these treatments work to sustain you your hair and keep the hair growth that you've experienced is unknown because there haven't been any authoritative research carried out to suggest the length of time such treatments work. However, according to many users in hair loss forums, the success rate is excellent and some of these users have been able to sustain results for a long period of time. Sure, they have gone through periodic shedding phases but have managed to sustain the results over a long period of time, nonetheless.
Following these steps will give you a chance to maintain your hair, though not cure it. However, if someone can maintain their hair for many years, perhaps until better treatments come along, they will be happy enough with such results. There have been significant investments by large pharmaceutical companies in the field to try and find better treatments for hair loss.
