How to buy things cheaply on eBay
This guide will set out strategies that can be used to buy products on eBay at low cost.
Do not buy a product straightaway – Follow some auctions and see how much the products usually go for. This practice might require a bit of patience, especially for those who are too eager to buy. The delay before purchasing a product will allow you to monitor how much such products normally sell for thus allowing you have an idea how much you should expect to pay and what represents a bargain.
Time of the day a product is sold – Products on eBay sell round the clock meaning the there are “peak” times when products tend to be bid higher other times when there is less activity among bidders thus likely to result in lower bids. Periods during which there is likely to be less activity are mornings simply because there will be fewer people using the Internet at the time. Although most sellers time their product to close their auctions at peak times, there always seems to be auctions ending pretty much at all times of the day, especially for very popular items.
Used products – Of course, by nature, most products on eBay are used because most of the transactions are carried out between individual buyers and sellers. This means you are much more likely to get some real bargains. If you don't mind products that have slight indiscretions such as marks or even a little damage but work just as perfectly as a new product, you can be sure to get some huge bargains.
Buy auctioned items - Always buy auction products rather products set as “Buy Now”. You are much more likely to get real bargains when you go through the auction process. Sellers always set the “buy now” price at quite steep levels compared to what they are likely to go for in a normal auction type sale. However, in rare cases when someone wants to shift large amount of stock, they may set a reasonable buy now price in order to ensure quick sale rather having to go through the auction procedure.
Older versions - Sometimes, products can differ substantially in price because they are an older version of the same line of product. For example, many mobile phones differ greatly in price between a slightly older version and a newer version even though the enhancements on a newer version may be purely cosmetic without differing substantially in terms of functionality. It seems as soon as a newer version comes to the market, the older version drops in price quite substantially. This is a positive thing for buyers who do not mind slightly fewer features rather than paying much more for some extra features that they will probably not use anyway. This is very common with electronic devices and gadgets but can also be found in other areas such as clothes.
Buy from international sellers – Sometimes you will get better deals from international merchants. For example, if you are based in the UK, buying from a seller based in the USA might work out cheaper since a lot of products sell cheaper in the USA compared to the UK, especially considering the currency exchange.
